21.09.13 to 31.10.13

Rookwood Cemetery, Sydney

This work consists of swathes of sheer cloth subtly augmented with embroidered handwritten messages alluding to love and loss. Draped from tree branches and tumbling to the ground, the folds of ghostly fabric are staked to the ground with rusted wire blooms, echoing the significance of flowers to the act of remembrance, as well as the ironwork so prevalent within the cemetery. The diaphanous cloth refers to the veil: the passage from life to the state of death. The materials used are fragile and will deteriorate over time, paralleling the processes of life itself.
